Blog 15 My Book

The book I read was Front of the Class, by Bradley Cohen
This book was an autobiography of author Brad Cohen, an elementary school teacher with Tourette's syndrome. The book begins in his childhood and progresses all the way into his adult life, and it maps out how he dealt with having Tourette's syndrome at every stage of his life. During his childhood Tourette's was not well known, at all, so he was very misunderstood by his family and peers. But when his mother eventually found out that what he was Tourette's syndrome they started to treat him for it an he was better understood by people. Getting a job teaching wasn't easy for him due to his condition but once he did he was  loved by all of his students. He is now happily married and still teaching in elementary school. My favorite part of this book was the part when he talked about how difficult it was for him to read because I can really relate. He described reading as having people all clapping in your era and calling your name. Which is very true reading with Tourette's syndrome is a very difficult task. I remember thinking right before I read this part of the book," I hate reading it's so hard there's no point".
