Final Blog

Iquest was an amazing experience, I am so happy that I had the opportunity to take this class. At the beginning of the year working at stronghold was so much fun and even after the internship position didn't exist anymore I still really enjoyed going and helping out! When I changed my internship to personal training and fitness I really started to know that I had found a passion. The amount of hours I put into going to the gym and researching workouts astounds me! I have become so dedicated and I have really fallen in love with nutrition and exercise. Iquest gave me the time to be able to pursue my passion and take my passion to the next level, I don't think I would've been able to become this dedicated if I didn't have my iQuest time.

The only difference between a good day and a bad day is your attitude.
  • ~Dennis S. Brown
This Quote is very true to me, attitude is everything. from a psychological standpoint even just thinking of a bad thing as a positive can help relieve stress. Looking at a stressor as a challenge in life rather than something bad that is happening to you has been proven to reduce risk of heart disease and many other stress related health conditions. I have found that it helps a lot to look at everything with a glass half full attitude because it just makes life easier to get through. I have also learned not to dwell on the bad things in life because all its going to do is keep you in a bad mood. If we focus on the good things we will be put in a good mood and just be happier in general.

Blog 15 My Book

The book I read was Front of the Class, by Bradley Cohen
This book was an autobiography of author Brad Cohen, an elementary school teacher with Tourette's syndrome. The book begins in his childhood and progresses all the way into his adult life, and it maps out how he dealt with having Tourette's syndrome at every stage of his life. During his childhood Tourette's was not well known, at all, so he was very misunderstood by his family and peers. But when his mother eventually found out that what he was Tourette's syndrome they started to treat him for it an he was better understood by people. Getting a job teaching wasn't easy for him due to his condition but once he did he was  loved by all of his students. He is now happily married and still teaching in elementary school. My favorite part of this book was the part when he talked about how difficult it was for him to read because I can really relate. He described reading as having people all clapping in your era and calling your name. Which is very true reading with Tourette's syndrome is a very difficult task. I remember thinking right before I read this part of the book," I hate reading it's so hard there's no point".

Blog 13

My freshman and sophomore year of high school I did not preform as well as I could have. I was hanging out with the wrong crowd and not prioritizing school. I really woke up junior year when I started hanging out with guys who all had high aspirations to go to a good college. I began to put my focus on school and my grades improved a lot. First semester I could've applied myself a little bit more, I was very forgetful with homework assignments in econ, iquest and statistics. This semester I am going to work much harder to keep on top of homework.

Second semester I am really looking forward to playing lacrosse again, it has been two years but it is just as fun as I remember. I am also trying to hit the "1000" pound club, the 1000 pound club is when your core lifts( Squat, bech, and deadlift) add up to 1000 pounds.I am currently benching 275, squatting 315 and dead lifting 315 those add up to 905lbs so I've got a ways to go but I think I can do it if I really focus. I am very much looking forward to graduation and going off to college I cant wait to find out where I got in.

I have applied to UNR, San Diego State, and * Cal Poly. If I don't get into Cal Poly however, I will most likely attend cuesta a community college in San Louis Obispo. I want to major in psychology. This summer I plan on getting my personal trainers license so that I can be a personal trainer throughout college.

S.M.A.R.T. Goal
My first smart goal is to hit the 1000 pound club in weight lifting. I think if I could Bench 300 Squat 350 and deadlift 350 that would be the easiest way to get there. It will be difficult with lacrosse because I will have to balance school, working out, and lacrosse. I want to accomplish this goal for myself. I really want to be able to say that I am in the 1000 pound club as well as be physically fit enough to do all of these things. I Plan to max on my lifts every month to see my progress and I will be logging my progress. I will know that I have achieved my goal because I will be able to add my lifts up to 1000 pounds. While this goal will be difficult I think that I can do it with hard work in the gym and proper diet. I want to do this by the end of senior year.

My second smart goal is to plan my senior trip with my friends. We want to rent a beach house in LA, I want to have this booked by the end of February. The only thing that could get in the way would be trying to all get together at the same time to plan it out. We have been saving our money for a while so we will have no problem affording to go. This trip will be one of the last things that we get to do together before we all leave for college and I hope that it will be a week to look back on. We have a few houses that we are looking at but we need to narrow them down to just one, then book it. I want this goal to be completed by February 28 at the latest.

My third smart goal is to get down to 10% body fat with my diet partner. My friend Kevin and I are doing a carb cycling diet, it is not easy and that's why we need to keep each other accountable. We are doping this diet until we both hit 10 percent body fat, so we will be checking our body fat percentages every 2 weeks. This diet has been proven to work very well.
This is a guy who did it for 12 weeks, there are a lot of cases like his as well. The diet is all about how hard we are willing to work at it. I want to reach my goal by the end of April at the latest.

Bucket filling

My favorite strategy that Rath discussed was make a best friend. I know that tour me hanging out with maybes friends can make the difference. Having classes with close friends also highly motivates me; I work best when I am with friends. Doing group work with people whom I don't necessarily know very well can be difficult because we have different views on many subjects, working in a group with friends is a lot easier because we can usually decide on a certain side or subject.

I also like the point that we need to reverse the golden rule. The first point is that not everyone has the same type of bucket, we need to individualize buckets. I strongly agree with this statement because not everything that makes other people happy will make me happy, likewise, not everything that makes me happy will make others happy.

Shine light on what is right! This point emphasizes the good things in life. Focus on what people are good at Rath states. I think the best way to succeed in life is to do what you are good at, if everyone did what they were best at the world would work a lot smoother. It also focus' on being a light in someones life   every interaction is an opportunity to brighten someones day. We have new moments in life every 3 seconds and each interaction is a chance to make a good impact.

I think Mr. Rath has made a very simple concept into a metaphor that can be a little bit harder to understand than the plain and simple meaning. If more good than bad happens to you in life you'll be happy; if more bad things happen to you in life than good things you will be depressed. I think the bucket insinuates a certain limit of good or bad, as well as a medium that every single person starts at. All people will have different,"Bucket", sizes. Many people are easily excited or discouraged, others are harder to get a reaction out of. My,"bucket levels", change day by day usually based on my own personal problems, what other people do doesn't affect me much I just wake up in a certain mood and stay in that mood for the rest of that day.
