My favorite strategy that Rath discussed was make a best friend. I know that tour me hanging out with maybes friends can make the difference. Having classes with close friends also highly motivates me; I work best when I am with friends. Doing group work with people whom I don't necessarily know very well can be difficult because we have different views on many subjects, working in a group with friends is a lot easier because we can usually decide on a certain side or subject.
I also like the point that we need to reverse the golden rule. The first point is that not everyone has the same type of bucket, we need to individualize buckets. I strongly agree with this statement because not everything that makes other people happy will make me happy, likewise, not everything that makes me happy will make others happy.
Shine light on what is right! This point emphasizes the good things in life. Focus on what people are good at Rath states. I think the best way to succeed in life is to do what you are good at, if everyone did what they were best at the world would work a lot smoother. It also focus' on being a light in someones life every interaction is an opportunity to brighten someones day. We have new moments in life every 3 seconds and each interaction is a chance to make a good impact.
I think Mr. Rath has made a very simple concept into a metaphor that can be a little bit harder to understand than the plain and simple meaning. If more good than bad happens to you in life you'll be happy; if more bad things happen to you in life than good things you will be depressed. I think the bucket insinuates a certain limit of good or bad, as well as a medium that every single person starts at. All people will have different,"Bucket", sizes. Many people are easily excited or discouraged, others are harder to get a reaction out of. My,"bucket levels", change day by day usually based on my own personal problems, what other people do doesn't affect me much I just wake up in a certain mood and stay in that mood for the rest of that day.
You certainly got me to thinking when you wrote, people have different size buckets. That is interesting. It would be cool if we were in the audience and you could question Mr. Rath about that point of view. Something to think about, that's for sure.
